Need help with big/little

Mark and I explored a new app today.  Language Skill Builder.  We started with shapes and colors which I knew that Mark knew.  However, I was really impressed that Mark even knew shapes like hexagon, pentagon and octagon!  Then, we tried big/little...did not do so well.  Only 30% correct.  So, I guess I know a place that we need to work on...

Phonemic awareness

I had a hard time getting Mark to sit down and focus this morning.  He was just too happy and flighty to sit and type spelling words.   I honestly thought the morning was going to be a waste.  He kept wanting to go back to the Camp Discovery app on the iPad.  This is what we always begin our lessons with.  So, I went into the Camp Discovery app and there are different "places" you can visit and we always just go to the same one.  The most basic one.  So, today, I looked at a couple of different places and I found one on phonemic awareness.  I started it up for him and he eventually sat down as got super focused...

This just reminds me that nobody likes to do the same thing over and over...I am not giving up on the typing but I think I will try to find other things we can do on the iPad that will also be useful for his learning...

Mark kept saying "Doctor" this morning and then said, "Go see the doctor"  I asked him what was wrong but got no reply...

I had a meeting earlier this week for my youngest son, Joshua, at his school.  He is in 5th grade and will be moving to the Middle school this fall.  Joshua is also on the spectrum.  He is on grade level WITH LOTS OF SUPPORT (i.e. having someone scribe for him constantly).  One area that Joshua desperately needs help with is spelling.  Many times he will ask me to spell words for him that would be simple to sound out.  So, I am exploring different methods to teach him spelling using phonics for the summer.  I think I may share our videos here on Mark's blog.  We will see, maybe Joshua will want his own blog...

Mark was very sleepy the past 2 days so we did not get any typing in.

This morning, I was reading the newspaper and Mark saw the Safeway advertisement and pulled it out to look at it.  Here is a short video...I think Mark wants "ham" for Easter...
